### Associated Fees

Web3 mainly works on the PAYGO (i.e. pay-as-you-go) model, meaning the user has to pay for every transaction, ergo pay for every mail, message, or data transfer. To make on-chain communication more viable, development is being done that will in parallel to PAYGO also enable subscription-based models, so the users will be able to pay a monthly subscription fee to access block space and communicate without the hurdle of paying for every transaction. ### 2. Why is on-chain communication important?

In apps built on the Immu3 infra stack, each mail, message or data file sharing is an L1/L2 transaction, while larger files are stored on decentralized storage. This model enables true decentralized communication that is non-custodial, permissionless, immutable, and resistant to Web2 data mining, contrasting sharply with traditional off-chain centralized communication.

What is the difference between legacy Web2 communication platforms and apps built on Immu3? <a href="#id-3.-what-is-the-difference-between-legacy-web2-communication-platforms-and-4p-super-app" id="id-3.-what-is-the-difference-between-legacy-web2-communication-platforms-and-4p-super-app"></a>

Legacy email applications use centralized databases and often lack E2E encryption. Users pay with their data, which is mined by the app. This Web2 model leads to data ownership loss, potential de-platforming, identity theft, spam, spoofing, and privacy loss.

The Immu3-based apps can be characterised as decentralized Web3 applications with no centralized database, giving users full control over their data. This approach prevents Web2 issues like data mining, data ownership loss, and de-platforming. It ensures secure, permissionless, immutable, self-custodial P2P on-chain communication.

### 4. What is the difference between dMail/dChat and BlockMail/BlockChat?

We refer to blockchain-based Mail/Chat as BlockMail/BlockChat. The Immu3 platform supports on-chain communication, with the level of decentralization matching that of the underlying network. Hence, terms like decentralized Mail/Chat, or dMail/dChat, are also applicable. However, given potential questions about some blockchain networks' decentralization, we prefer BlockMail/BlockChat. Sometimes the term on-chain email/message is also used within the Immu3 documentation. Ultimately, the choice of naming comes down to user preference.

### 5. Who can use Immu3?

Immu3 is an infrastructure and protocol stack platform for integrators to develop on-chain communication-based mail, messaging, and data-sharing apps. Simultaneously, the Immu3  AppSuite was created to provide permissionless access for anyone to use. Users can connect their MetaMask, Coinbase, or WalletConnect-supported wallets to experience on-chain communication within polished Web3 UIs:

* **BlockCommunicator**: A blockchain-based alternative to traditional email and messaging. This app allows users to communicate on-chain in a self-custodial manner, ensuring security and preserving data ownership.
* **W3XShare**: A decentralized alternative to "WeTransfer," enabling secure, self-custodial data file sharing that protects against data ownership loss and data mining.
* **PX Drive:** A decentralized storage application that allows users to store and access files online in a true self-custodial and permissionless way.

### 6. What is the integration cost?

### 7. What is the cost of using Immu3 AppSuite?

Parallel to the underlying L1/L2 transaction gas cost, the service fees (i.e. protocol fees) are also settled on the smart contract level and are applicable for every mail, message or data-sharing transaction. Total user cost equals the sum of the L1/L2 transaction gas and the service fees. The gas and service fees converge and manifest as one end-user communication transaction fee. ### 8. How can I become an integrator and do I need to be a developer?

Permissionless integrator licences will be available via the Immu3 Integrator Dashboard and are perfect for teams wanting to build their on-chain communication apps. The Integrator Dashboard will unlock the skill and know-how required to abstract the complexities and simplify the deployment of on-chain communication apps. Anyone, not only developers will be able to deploy the mail or messaging apps in an hour.

### 9. How does it work? <a href="#id-6.-how-does-it-work" id="id-6.-how-does-it-work"></a>

The message exchange happens on-chain as one short message represents one L1/L2 blockchain transaction. As the mailing or data file sharing process is data heavier, lite encrypted JSON objects are created to hold mail metadata. The link to this metadata and checksum is recorded on the chain as a blockchain transaction. So again, the core primitive described by the formula below applies;

### 10. Which blockchain does Immu3 support? <a href="#id-7.-which-blockchain-can-i-use-to-connect-to-4p" id="id-7.-which-blockchain-can-i-use-to-connect-to-4p"></a>

Immu3 is supporting all EVM (e.g., Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, etc.), but is adding deployments in a planned timeframe. The first batch of deployments includes Fantom Opera, Oasis, Zeta, Edgeware, Arthera and Immu3 blockchains.

### 11. Where is my data stored? <a href="#id-9.-where-is-my-data-stored" id="id-9.-where-is-my-data-stored"></a>

Integrators can select the storage used within their apps, determining the data storage location. The OCC SDK and White labels integrate PollinationX's decentralized storage service by default. When chosen, it utilizes BTFS (i.e. Bittorrent file system) for self-custodial storage of encrypted user data. In the end-user AppSuite, mails and attachments are encrypted and stored on both decentralized storage and local devices, while encrypted messaging data is stored on-chain.

Yes, you can send any type of data file as a mail attachment through BlockCommunicator or use the W3XShare data file transfer app for larger data files. The user's PX sNFT determines storage availability (e.g., 100MB, 1GB, 10GB, 20GB) and by that, it defines the data file transfer size.&#x20;

### 13. What is the PX sNFT and do I need it? <a href="#id-11.-what-is-the-px-snft-and-do-i-need-it" id="id-11.-what-is-the-px-snft-and-do-i-need-it"></a>

PX sNFTs (i.e. PollinationX Decentralized Storage NFTs) let users mint self-custodial storage units with specific capacities (e.g., 100MB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 100GB) for upload bandwidth. PollinationX offers the first 100MB sNFT of storage for free. Users can upgrade their storage with larger PX sNFTs. BlockCommunicator is a Web3-native application supporting [MetaMask](https://support.metamask.io/getting-started/getting-started-with-metamask/), [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/learn/tips-and-tutorials/how-to-set-up-a-crypto-wallet), and Wallet Connect. The BlockCommunicator dashboard is your mission control within the application. It gives you an overview, lets you set up self-custodial communication encryption via the Encryptor extension and manage decentralized storage via PX Storage NFTs.

The Encryptor extension adds an encryption layer for blockchain-based mail and messages. A one-time on-chain transaction, requiring gas, saves the sender/recipient's public key.

Decentralized storage and bandwidth are used in communication. PX Storage NFTs, which can be minted as needed, enable self-custodial storage management. Bandwidth usage depends on the number of uploads to decentralized storage.

The BlockCommunicator app empowers you to send and receive end-to-end encrypted BlockMails, protecting against data mining, phishing, spoofing, spam, and identity theft. The sender and receiver must be on the same blockchain, as cross-chain emailing is not supported. While encryption is optional, we strongly encourage its use. On-chain communication incurs various [fees](https://wiki.immu3.io/builders/fees-and-integrator-economics) throughout the process.

Sending Blockmails:

# Fees & Integrator Economics

Total user cost equals the sum of the L1/L2 transaction gas, the protocol fee and the storage cost.

### Let's Start

Web3 mainly works based on the PAYGO (i.e. pay-as-you-go) transaction model, meaning the user has to pay for every mail, message, or data-sharing transaction. To make on-chain communication more viable, work is being done that will parallel to PAYGO also enable subscription-based models, so the users can pay a monthly subscription fee to access block space and communicate without the hurdle of paying for every transaction.

## Fees within the Protocol

Parallel to the underlying L1/L2 transaction gas cost, the service fees (i.e. protocol fees) are also settled on the smart contract level and are applicable for every mail, message or data file-sharing transaction. Total user cost equals the sum of the L1/L2 transaction gas and service fees and the cost of decentralized storage. Both, the gas and service fees converge and manifest as one end-user communication transaction fee. Fees are handled by the \[[AppFeeManager](/integrators/architecture-by-layers/occ-protocol-v.1#appfeemanager-smart-contract)] smart contract.&#x20;

### Let's Start

Architecture refers to the components and subcomponents or layers that comprise a complete Immu3 stack. Each layer has a unique role, from the underlying blockchain layer, storing data to enabling communication encryption and ensuring user connectivity and integration across the system. # OCC Protocol v.1

With many iterations behind there are five EVM smart contracts forming the core protocol layer; (1) Mail; (2) Chat; (3) Users; (4) AppFeeManager, and; (5) Lock.

### Overview

The OCC Protocol follows mathematical methods embedded and enforced by smart contracts and can not act in a malicious or harmful manner (e.g. breaking its code primitives by granting access to communication transactions in any way or form). The methods within OCC Protocol smart contracts (i.e. Mail, Chat, Users, AppFeeManager, Lock, TierManager) set simple but strong rules enforcing its core primitives such as; immutability and transparency within P2P decentralized communication.

While built and developed by the 4thTech initiative, the multi-chain OCC Protocol v.1 deployment is the task of a `Level-1` integrator Immu3.&#x20;

`[Mail]` smart contract is implementing the following methods;

`[Chat]` is a smart contract used for decentralized, encrypted short message exchange over the blockchain. Deployed on various L1s and L2s, the protocol empowers any project to develop Web3 messaging-like communication dApps. Chat smart contract is implementing the following methods;

# Encryption

Encryption is one of the key parts of the on-chain communication infrastructure.

### Let's Start

Encryption is one of the key parts of the infrastructure. There are three options available within the OCC SDK; (1) Custom encryption; (2) AES-randomly generated secret key, and; (3) AES-secret key produced by ECDH. The OCC technology uses GCM (Galois/Counter Mode), which is often considered the safest among all AES modes.

### (1) No encryption

Plain unencrypted content is shared between wallet client A (i.e. sender) and wallet client B (i.e. receiver).

### (2) Custom encryption

Integrators have the option to develop their specific encryption implementations.

### (3) AES (symmetric, secret key encryption)

Natively AES-256-GCM is used for the encryption algorithm. &#x20;

### (3.1) AES (randomly generated secret key)

A random secret key is generated to encrypt content, which is shared between wallet client A (i.e. sender) and wallet client B (i.e. receiver). Content is encrypted with AES encryption. The receiver obtains the secret key from a sender using external communication (i.e. email, chat…) to decrypt the content.

### (3.2) AES (secret key produced by ECDH secret key exchange enabled by Encryptor extension)

The secret key is produced with ECDH secret key exchange. The sender needs the receiver [Encryptor extension](/integrators/clients-and-tools/intro-to-encryptor-extension) public key to be recorded on the blockchain. Encryptor extension is used to calculate the shared secret key.&#x20;

**Explainer:** The calculation is made using the receiver Encryptor extension public key and sender Encryptor extension private key. Content is encrypted with AES encryption and shared between wallet client A and wallet client B. The receiver decrypts the content using a calculated shared secret key. The secret key is calculated with the receiver Encryptor extension private key and the sender Encryptor extension public key. AES encryption with a secret key produced by ECDH secret key exchange is used within Email & Chat use cases.

E2e encrypted blockchain mail that is resistant to data mining, phishing, spoofing, spam and the theft of digital identity or data.

### Blockchain Mail

**Blockchain Mail** (or “BlockMail”) is a communication platform that leverages blockchain networks to facilitate peer-to-peer message delivery. In this model, each mail is represented as a blockchain transaction, introducing an unprecedented level of trust and security, and ensuring mail communication immutability and traceability.&#x20;

By recording mail checksum, L1/L2s power the on-chain mailing, while data and media file attachments are exchanged via decentralized storage.&#x20;

E2e encrypted DMs and on-chain group chats are resistant to data mining, phishing, fake clone attacks, account hijacking, and the theft of digital identity or data.

### Blockchain Messaging

**Blockchain messaging** (or “BlockChat”) is the process of composing and sending electronic messages using blockchain networks. Each message is recorded as a blockchain transaction, providing a secure and immutable communication method. This approach ensures that messages are delivered peer-to-peer and are resistant to tampering and unauthorized access.

Immu3's block messaging platform is fully on-chain, while data and media files are exchanged via decentralised storage. There is no need for a centralised database. The average message transaction confirmation depends on the transaction finality of the chosen L1 or L2, the same goes for message transaction cost.

# Intro to Encryptor extension

Fully self-custodial Chrome extension that enables E2E AES-256-GCM highly secure encryption of on-chain communications by user-owned private keys.

### True Self-custodial communication encryption

Used by Immu3 stack-enabled end-users, the Encryptor extension adds a communication encryption layer currently unsupported by major Web3 wallets. It enables the ECDH key agreement protocol, creating an elliptic curve key pair and computing the shared secret key between the sender and receiver. Similar to a Web3 wallet, it allows users to save their private key seed phrases, which can be used to restore their Encryptor at any time or on any device.

### Let's Start

Immu3 AppChain was built on the Tansii AppChain infrastructure protocol. It inherits block finality (consensus) from Polkadot RelayChain. Consequently, it acts as a Layer 1 blockchain like Moonbeam, not Layer 2 solutions on top of another Layer 1. It is a public EVM smart contract platform that offers reliability, scalability and security needed within use cases of on-chain communication.&#x20;

# Adding MetaMask

This user guide will help you connect MetaMask to the Immu3 AppChain.

## Add Immu3 AppChain TestNet to MetaMask

1. Go to MetaMask settings, click on *Network,* and then click *Add Network*.
2. Click on *Add a network manually*.
3. Fill in the details below:
   1. **Network Name**: Immu3 EVM TestNet
   2. **RPC URL**: <https://fraa-flashbox-2800-rpc.a.stagenet.tanssi.network>
   3. **ChainID**: 3100
   4. **Symbol**: IMMU
   5. **Block Explorer URL**: <https://evmexplorer.tanssi-chains.network/?rpcUrl=https://fraa-flashbox-2800-rpc.a.stagenet.tanssi.network>
4. Click *Save*
